Shawn D. Simon has died following a tragic head-on collision on State Route 93 in Stark County, Ohio, leaving the Lawrence Township and Massillon communities in mourning.
The fatal crash occurred on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at approximately 12:16 p.m. when Simon, 41, was driving a northbound 2005 GMC Sierra. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, his vehicle crossed the center line for reasons still under investigation and collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 70-year-old Terry L. Evans, also of Massillon.
The force of the impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway. Emergency responders from multiple agencies arrived quickly at the scene and used hydraulic rescue tools to extricate Simon from his vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts, Shawn D. Simon was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Silverado, Terry L. Evans, survived the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger in his vehicle was assessed at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
Authorities temporarily closed State Route 93 while emergency crews worked and investigators examined the crash site. Officials are continuing to review potential contributing factors, including driver condition, mechanical issues, and roadway circumstances.
