When the suspect answered the door, a confrontation quickly escalated into a violent struggle, during which Officer Hicks was shot.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he fought for his life for four days. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries on April 24, 2024, leaving behind a grieving family, fellow officers, and a community forever impacted by his loss.
Even in death, Officer Hicks demonstrated extraordinary selflessness. Through organ donation, he saved the lives of five individuals, extending his legacy of service beyond his time in uniform.
